Christmas Shorts

“Gee, do they still make wooden Christmas Trees?”

My choices for the five best Christmas Short Films:

  • A Charlie Brown Christmas
  • The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
  • Blackadder’s Christmas Carol
  • A Wish for Wings that Work
  • Woodland Critter Christmas

Christmas is the one time of year when short films actually have a chance, at least if they are TV specials.  Forty years ago there were only a few of these holiday shorts, but now they are everywhere.  I’ll try and trim out what you need to skip and point you toward the ones that you’ll remember for years to come.

Now in other places on this site, I discuss short films, sticking to “independent” shorts, and splitting them from TV series episodes.  However, I’m not making those distinctions here.  A large number of Christmas specials are connected to a series in some way, so why cut out the Christmas episodes?  However, as just about every show that’s touched the airwaves has a Christmas episode, I’m only going to cover Christmas episodes that I think are significant or of high quality (shorts not connected to a series will be covered no matter how bad they are).  Don’t look for the Alice Christmas episode here.

And, as this is a place for short films, these will all be under 60 minutes.
