Pacific Rim is a win with smashing, crashing, mecha-tastic, kaiju-arificness. And a win for joyful secondary eccentric over-the-top characters. As for plot, it gets by. And the main characters and their development? Ummm. Well. Hey look, something exploded. Basically, this is a Michael Bey movie, if Michael Bey had talent. Which is a kind of recommendation.
Gotta love the Japanese. Fish gain mechanical legs and hit the streets of the city. There’s shark attacks in living rooms, a virus, bloated green people, body horror/tentacle hentai, the apocalypse, and the hopeless feeling so prevalent in Asian horror. And it’s animated. It made me sooooo happy.

Finally took in Jack the Giant Slayer. Better than others have said. Never be a classic, but worth your time. See it in theaters while you still can (second runs make the world go round).
I’m sure it has been said many times before me, but: To boldly go where we’ve all gone many many times before.
This is a hard one. Jurassic Park is an excellent film, and one that really needs to be seen in the theater. So, it coming back next Friday sounds like a big win and a good way to spend your movie money. But, it is coming out in 3D, and 3D sucks. A lot. All the time. Massively. The 3D will kill memories of what the film looked like a decade ago in theaters, and give annoying distributors more incentive to continue to put films out in that crappy format. On the other hand, it is Jurassic Park on the big screen. So…Decisions.
For Easter we watched that classic Easter-themed film, “King Kong.” The Easter Gorilla was Eugie’s idea, who then had some issues with the length of his appearance. It was Peter Jackson’s extended version, but when a film has that strong a holiday theme, why complain?
Two “Pirates of the Caribbean” films (got too late to make it three, but that’s what tomorrow is for) and “D-Wars” (strictly for background).
Or St. Patrick’s Day if you like that name better.
